Record New Year baby births

TWENTY-one babies were born in Windhoek’s two State hospitals on New Year’s Day.

The Katutura State Hospital recorded the highest number of 14 babies born on January 1. Acting Matron at Katutura Hospital Maternity ward Selma Jakob told Nampa on Friday that nine girls and five boys were delivered at the hospital.
She said the first New Year’s baby was born at around 00h19 while the last one was born at 14h20.
Seven New Year’s babies – all girls – were born at Windhoek Central Hospital.
Eight babies were born at the coastal towns of Swakopmund and Walvis Bay on New Year’s Day.
Nampa spoke to Sister Sigrid Shigwedha from the Walvis Bay State Hospital, who confirmed that five babies were born at the hospital on New Year’s Day.
In Swakopmund, one baby was born at the Cottage Medi-Clinic, according to Matron Jo Calitz. Two babies were born at the Swakopmund State Hospital, according to Sister Emily Nambase. – Nampa
