Recession slang

NOT much good has come out of the recession from which we seem to be slowly emerging. But at least it’s left us with some new slang to bandy about, the most popular probably being ‘staycation’ – that trip you didn’t take last summer.

This week, The Christian Science Monitor compiled some other words coined for the new economy. Here’s a sampling:•Insource: The opposite of outsource. For example: ‘No, I can’t meet you for brunch, I’m insourcing my laundry these days.’•Intaxication: A sense of delight mingled with the perception of instant wealth one feels upon receiving a tax credit. Seems like an apropos word no matter what the economy is doing.•Madoff’d: The equivalent of getting ripped off, of course.•Decruited: To be fired from a position one has not even started yet. As in, ‘I got decruited from that law firm I’d been interning for.’•Permatemp: The condition of being permanently employed as a temporary worker.•Funemployment: The practice of enjoying one’s lack of employment. For example: ‘As part of my funemployment plan, I’ve joined an Ultimate Frisbee league and am providing foster care to three puppies.’ – National Public Radio
