THE rebirth of the famous Mukorob or ‘Finger of God’ is on the cards.
The School of Environmental Sciences and Development at South Africa’s Northwest University (NWU) will spearhead the project in conjunction with University of Namibia (Unam).
In correspondence with the Karas Regional Council, tabled at a Council meeting at the end of last week, Professor MS Coetzee of NWU said the project required a fine balance between economic viability and the preservation of the ambience of the natural environment to entice people to experience Mukorob again. ‘The desired sense of place will give this endeavour its impact,’ Coetzee said. Coetzee said the project will be the first in the world to erect a replica of one of the most awesome phenomena of weathering and erosion which formed the rock known as the ‘Finger of God’.NWU is busy discussing the details of the project with the Karas Regional Council and the Namibian Government to grant approval for the project.luqman@namibian.com.na
