Ramblers lead women’s league

RAMBLERS lead the Khomas Women’s Football League with four points from their two matches, but defending champions Okahandja Beauties opened their campaign with a resounding 10-0 victory over Unam Bokkies on Sunday.

Ramblers drew their first match 2-all against the Namibia Defence Force (NDF) Cheetahs on Saturday, before they ousted Poly Babes 2-1 the following day. The win has put them in the driving seat, but that might be short-lived as Okahandja Beauties stormed to a huge win in their first match of the season against Unam Bokkies. In fact, Osire Angels, Poly Babes, Rehoboth Queens Beauties and Amateachers all have three points. The difference is that both Beauties and Amateachers have only played single matches since the start of the league on the first weekend of October. The biggest upset of the weekend was when Beauties raked in 10 goals past a poor-performing Unam Bokkies side on Sunday.Amateachers only managed to put away one goal in a one-sided match, despite a better performance by the losing side the previous day.Unam Bokkies lost 2-0 to Osire Angels on Saturday, a respectable score-line, compared to their disastrous performance the following day which now sees them rooted at the base of the table with no points.Unam Bokkies have lost both opening matches so far.Okahandja Beauties, on the other hand, have virtually all the national team players at their disposal and this advantage landed them the championship last season.Last year proved to be one-way traffic for Beauties as they recorded some huge scores against their opponents who hardly posed a threat. This season though, officials believe Beauties will no longer be as dominant as some of the other teams, such as Ramblers, Osire Angels and the Poly Babes have also employed some solid players.Despite being on the fifth position, Beauties already have three leading scorers in the league and all three obtained their goals in the only match they played at the weekend. The three are Salome Iyambo and Stella Williams, who have scored three each, while Rejoice Kasaona has scored twice.Ramblers’ leading scorer so far is Stephany Hummel, while Emma Garises and Josofina Seibes have one goal each.Third-placed Poly Babes will this season rely on the services of Kavezeri Kahiirikue (2) and Emmie Johnson, who has scored once so far.Paula Fransisca leads the goal-scoring chart for Osire Angels with two goals, while her teammate, Eunice Chindekasi, has also hit the net twice.Rehoboth Queens have Leandre Lucas as their key striker for this season and she has so far scored twice for them, while Ruusa Theodor has scored one goal. For NDF Cheetahs, Helvi Hasheendo and Zuma Hamata have so far netted one goal each.Full results for the weekend were as follows: NDF Cheetahs 2-2 Ramblers, Poly Babes 2-0 Rehoboth Queens, Amateachers 3-2 Osire Angels, Rehoboth Queens 3-0 NDF Cheetahs, Ramblers 2-1 Poly Babes, Osire Angels 2-0 Unam Bokkies, Okahandja
