Purity Manganese to expand in Nam

WINDHOEK – While most of the mines are laying off workers and suspending mining activities due to the global recession, Purity Manganese is expanding its activities and operations during this period.

Purity Manganese decided to increase investments and modernise its mining operations at Otjosondu farm, situated some 80 kilometres northeast of Okahandja, by investing an additional amount of around N$100 million.
The company’s representative, Boris Bennai, told Nampa that the investment is expected to create approximately 150 jobs at the mine, which currently employs about 400 workers.
Bennai said the company is also planning to construct a smelter worth N$250 million in the near future.
He said the company has applied for another portion of land at the Otjosondu farm with a view to construct a smelter and houses for workers.
Bennai said if everything goes well, the company will construct more than 400 houses for the workers.
He said the equipment was already off-loaded at the port of Walvis Bay last week.
