Pupils face assault charge

OSHAKATI – NINE pupils from the Mweshipandeka Senior Secondary School at Ongwediva appeared on charges of common assault in the Magistrate’s Court here on Thursday.

The pupils allegedly assaulted three new learners in a school hostel room by beating them with sticks. No reasons for the alleged beatings have emerged yet.Magistrate Helena Ekandjo postponed the case to April 6 to allow for further Police investigations.The accused pupils were released from Police custody on warning.They were not required to plead.The accused are: Victor Nangolo (18), Nikanor Joseph (18), Wilbard Paulus (21), John Shapange (22), Joseph Bonifatius (20), Frans Shinyuki (18), Sakaria Nghiwini (21) and a 17-year-old boy who cannot be named.They conducted their own defence.Public Prosecutor Henock Haindobo prosecuted.- NampaNo reasons for the alleged beatings have emerged yet.
