THE Namibian Police, with the help of their Angolan counterparts, have re-arrested two prisoners who escaped from the Ondangwa Rehabilitation Centre on Monday afternoon.
Head of the Ondangwa Rehabilitation Centre, Andreas Nikanor Shapaka, told The Namibian yesterday that the two made their getaway while prisoners were working near the centre’s workshop. The duo stole a motorbike, cut the fence and drove towards Oshikango.They also took a video recorder from the centre, Shapaka said.Shapaka called Police stations across the North to tell them to look out for the escapees.The two men abandoned their motorbike after Police shot at them near Onghala village on Monday evening.Yesterday morning the Angolan police arrested the two men at Santa Clara, just across the border from Oshikango.The Angolans handed the duo over to the Namibian Police.The men have been charged with escape from lawful custody, theft and malicious damage to property and are expected to appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court this morning.The duo stole a motorbike, cut the fence and drove towards Oshikango.
