NAMIBIA’S second mobile phone operator, PowerCom, unveiled its corporate brand at a function in Windhoek yesterday.
PowerCom’s Chief Executive Officer, Mac Allman, together with the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, presented the company’s logo and slogan: ‘One Cell. My network, my choice’.PowerCom, which was recently granted a licence by the Namibian Communications Commission (NCC), will become competition for the country’s current sole cellphone operator, Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC).Allman said the company’s Sim cards should be available on the market by December. He said telecommunications played an important part in boosting a country’s economy and development, and his company would complement the pioneering work done in that sector by both MTC and Telecom Namibia – the country’s sole fixed-line operator.Nandi-Ndaitwah said Government was spearheading the advancement of information and communication technology (ICT), adding that a new player like PowerCom was cementing these ideals and was a step in the right direction. She said Telecom, MTC and PowerCom should forge a healthy competing relationship in order to bring better telecommunication services to Namibians.”We would like to see the three of you becoming an important catalyst for ICT development in our society,” she said.Nandi-Ndaitwah also emphasised that it was essential for the sector to incorporate female trainees and employees, as the area of science and technology had long been dominated by men.My network, my choice’.PowerCom, which was recently granted a licence by the Namibian Communications Commission (NCC), will become competition for the country’s current sole cellphone operator, Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC).Allman said the company’s Sim cards should be available on the market by December. She said Telecom, MTC and PowerCom should forge a healthy competing relationship in order to bring better telecommunication services to Namibians.”We would like to see the three of you becoming an important catalyst for ICT development in our society,” she said.Nandi-Ndaitwah also emphasised that it was essential for the sector to incorporate female trainees and employees, as the area of science and technology had long been dominated by men.
