Power generation from waste heat

CAPE TOWN – South African power utility Eskom has opened bids for companies to convert waste energy heat into electricity and an additional 3 500 MW may be produced this way, a senior government official has said.

“The waste heat is processed heat from (for) example (fuel and petrochemicals group) Sasol or the furnace industry that needs to be captured so that you can then generate electricity from that,” said Ompi Aphane, chief director of electricity at the Department of Minerals and Energy during a parliament briefing. “We believe that there is an upside of 3 500 megawatts and a process is already underway with Eskom.A bidding process has started to try and capture these megawatts”.Nampa-Reuters”We believe that there is an upside of 3 500 megawatts and a process is already underway with Eskom.A bidding process has started to try and capture these megawatts”.Nampa-Reuters
