Poor response to car amnesty

THE Road Authority’s Transport and Information Division Manager, Wilfried Brock, says his office is disappointed with the low turnout of people responding to the amnesty on outstanding car registrations.

Only about 35 per cent of the targeted car owners made use of the offer to have their arrears cancelled by renewing their registrations, he said. Brock said all attempts had been made to inform people of the amnesty in their own languages to ensure that everyone got the message.”The Road Authority is therefore warning all motor vehicle owners who have not yet responded to the amnesty to do so as a matter of urgency, as failure to comply may result in them being summoned to court in June to recover all outstanding licence fees on their names,” Brock said.He also appealed to people who have sold vehicles to verify with the NaTIS office whether the vehicles have been registered in the names of the new owners.Brock added that people who bought vehicles with outstanding licence fees would not be allowed to register them until all debts were settled. The amnesty ends on May 30.Brock said all attempts had been made to inform people of the amnesty in their own languages to ensure that everyone got the message.”The Road Authority is therefore warning all motor vehicle owners who have not yet responded to the amnesty to do so as a matter of urgency, as failure to comply may result in them being summoned to court in June to recover all outstanding licence fees on their names,” Brock said.He also appealed to people who have sold vehicles to verify with the NaTIS office whether the vehicles have been registered in the names of the new owners.Brock added that people who bought vehicles with outstanding licence fees would not be allowed to register them until all debts were settled. The amnesty ends on May 30.
