DEPUTY Prime Minister Libertina Amathila says needy communities are doing their utmost to create jobs and income, but a lack of capital to start profitable businesses is hampering their initiatives.
Amathila said there was a need to break down the barriers between consumers and commercial banks, which are profit driven and usually require collateral, which makes it difficult for ordinary people to get loans. Speaking at the First National Bank Foundation’s awards ceremony on Friday, Amathila said Namibia was grappling with an unequal distribution of wealth, severe unemployment, a small manufacturing base and an acute lack of skills in critical areas of the economy.”It is therefore essential for both private and Government sectors in the country to commit themselves to hard work, coupled with political will, in order to break down the unequal equity distribution and bring about a more just and fair society, as aspired for in Vision 2030,” she said.Amathila, who is involved in San development programmes, said in order to eradicate poverty and underdevelopment, people must be included in the planning and implementation of their own programmes.Speaking at the First National Bank Foundation’s awards ceremony on Friday, Amathila said Namibia was grappling with an unequal distribution of wealth, severe unemployment, a small manufacturing base and an acute lack of skills in critical areas of the economy.”It is therefore essential for both private and Government sectors in the country to commit themselves to hard work, coupled with political will, in order to break down the unequal equity distribution and bring about a more just and fair society, as aspired for in Vision 2030,” she said.Amathila, who is involved in San development programmes, said in order to eradicate poverty and underdevelopment, people must be included in the planning and implementation of their own programmes.
