THE 2009 National Assembly and presidential elections continue to haunt the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) more than a month after the elections ended.
This time it is not the election outcome that is in question but the ECN’s logistics. The Namibian has been receiving complaints from election workers claiming that they have not been paid yet. Most of the complaints are coming from those who worked in the Omusati and Omaheke regions during the elections.’We want an answer from ECN headquarters. Some regions got paid in December but Omusati is still in a vacuum,’ said an election worker from Outapi in the Omusati Region. Acting Elections Director Ananias Elago responded that the ECN had paid everyone who helped during the elections. He said if there are people who haven’t been paid yet, they should forward their enquiries directly to the finance department at the ECN head office. The Namibian has learned that the problem might be with ECN co-ordinators in constituencies and regions, who are responsible for making sure that everyone under them is paid.
