Politics leads to stabbing

A 27-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested at Okakekete village in the Omusati Region after another man at the village was hospitalised with serious stab wounds.

A fight is said to have started between Natangwe Angula, the suspect, and a group of villagers after Angula was evicted by his mother from their homestead because of his Rally for Democracy and Progress membership.Sebron Aushona suffered serious stab wounds in the chest and neck, allegedly at the hands of Angula.Aushona is being treated at the Oshakati State Hospital and doctors have described his condition as serious but stable.Sources at Okakekete village told The Namibian that Angula mother, Hendrina Ndivayele-Mutota, is unhappy that her son is an RDP supporter and ordered some young people from the village to take off the roof of her son’s bedroom and ordered him to leave their common home at Okakekete village.Angula is said to have been angered by the actions of his mother and got involved in a fight with Aushona and his friends on Sunday night. Young men at the village went looking for Angula after the fight and when they found him they allegedly beat him up and handed him over to the Police.Deputy Commissioner Shinedima Shindinge denied that the fight was politically motivated, but a family matter.Meanwhile, Namrights issued a statement on Monday accusing Swapo of inciting political violence in Omusati. And the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) accused the Police of complacency that resulted in bloodshed between Swapo and RDP members.’We in the RDP believe that violence will not take us anywhere. Instead, it will lead us to the loss of lives and destruction of properties,’ the statement said.
