A NATIONAL Council member, Barakias Namwandi, and Swapo regional co-ordinator Nico Mugenga were allegedly involved in a shebeen brawl over the weekend.
The fight allegedly started at the Private Eye shebeen in Mariental’s Aimablaagte residential area on Saturday, The Namibian was informed. According to a source, a fight broke out between Mugenga and an unknown man who allegedly made racist remarks to him.The source said that Namwandi, after being informed of the fight, allegedly started looking for the man who had insulted Mugenga.Namwandi found the man at another shebeen, where a fight allegedly broke out between the two, the source added. When approached for comment yesterday, Namwandi denied that he had been involved in any fight.”I only went to the shebeen to restrain a mob of people from fighting, but was hit with a knobkierie by a white man on my hand,” he claimed.Namwandi told The Namibian that he planned to lay a charge of assault against that man.Chief Inspector Johanna Araes of the Hardap Police confirmed the fight involving Namwandi and Mugenga. However, she could not provide more details, saying the Police were still investigating the matter.Araes also confirmed that Mugenga had laid a charge of grievous bodily harm against a mob of people for injuries he sustained during the brawl in front of the Private Eye shebeen.Attempts to get comment from Mugenga yesterday proved futile.According to a source, a fight broke out between Mugenga and an unknown man who allegedly made racist remarks to him.The source said that Namwandi, after being informed of the fight, allegedly started looking for the man who had insulted Mugenga.
