POLITICAL Will always gets it in the neck!
Hardly surprising when only half a brain is needed to see his actions are so often linked to his own interest. Massive pensions, big-pay-rises, lots of round the world trips and the associated S&T and even steering legislation to avoid being trapped into guilt under new rights for women, or even worse, back peddaling on matters affecting children’s rights and domestic abuse! But then who can blame them; they only have a few years at the trough before they are photographed listening to somebody of an opposing political persuasion and get the boot. Anyway it is an easy way to make money for an occasional appearance in the relevant house and spouting the appropriate party dogma before yet another evening feed at some business forum. After all it was openly stated some years ago by a retiring regional governor to a group of youth that ‘there are other ways of making money than politics’. Well that let the cat out of the bag. I thought politics was about service to the people but then I have always been an irrepressible optimist. Maybe he was joking? After all we all know it is Private Parts who actually make the money through their nasty economic activity; they of course exploit the workers, abuse health and safety rules, steal the natural resources, overpay the bosses and pay tax; but are generally to blame for everything. On top of this they occasionally get caught taking sacks full’s of money out of the country, usually in US$, giving beneficial access to cash loans and pretty ladies to get business and even when they fail to deliver conveniently find that their contract forgot a liability clause!Such is the nature of Private Parts and Political Will; they depend on each other. All about redistribution; ‘Parts’ pays tax and ‘Will’ spends it. A relationship that neither party wishes to disturb but also an argument that seemed too fragile to hold together for too long. Then came the revelation in this paper (23/01/09, B8); female orgasmic satisfaction is dependent upon the size of the man’s wallet. Hey presto; positively Freudian and thus irrefutable. It is all about sex. So matters of national importance slide into subordinate priorities. Now we know why strange decisions are made. It is all about money and the need to maintain reproductive impetus; ‘Political Will’ needs ‘Private Parts’ to keep the act together. Wow!Our silence on Darfur bombing, DRC atrocities and its political reversals or cholera in Zimbabwe is explained. It is really about monetary benefit, not a balanced evaluation of principle but on not disturbing the regional ‘status quo’which has provided steady benefits for those who remain silent and compliant for many years. Fat wallets are a primordial need.So those so worried about leaking donor money or selfish acts or open financial silliness must realise that the motivation for ‘Will’ is not quite what it seems.Things are about to change. Money is getting scarce; ‘Will’ is going to have to change. ‘Parts’ has let us all down by screwing up the world financial and productive systems. Budgets are going to tighten drastically, tough decisions lie ahead and accountability be laid bare. Will ‘Will’ have the ‘Political Will’ to act appropriately in the national interest? Or will ‘Private Parts’ overrule sanity? Is it appropriate to consider whether governments should be subject to charges of ‘Crimes of Peace’ when deaths and suffering occur through administrative gross negligence? The People are the victims. – csmith@mweb.com.na
