Policeman shoots dead alleged illegal fisherman

A POLICE officer appeared on murder charges in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court on Monday for shooting dead a Zambian national who was allegedly fishing illegally in Namibian waters in the Nsundwa area.

Francis Sikwai Musanza (30) died instantly when he was struck in the abdomen by a bullet fired by Mofat Muyandulwa. According to the daily Police crime bulletin, eight Zambian nationals and five Namibians were caught allegedly fishing illegally in the area on July 15.The seven Zambians are being charged with illegal entry into Namibia, while two of the Namibians are being charged with harbouring illegal immigrants.It is believed the men had set up camp along the river from where they were fishing.According to the daily Police crime bulletin, eight Zambian nationals and five Namibians were caught allegedly fishing illegally in the area on July 15.The seven Zambians are being charged with illegal entry into Namibia, while two of the Namibians are being charged with harbouring illegal immigrants.It is believed the men had set up camp along the river from where they were fishing.
