The Namibian Police are searhing for a man who allegedly raped a girl (2) at Gobabis on Saturday.
According to police spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi, the suspect broke into a shack at around 23h00, while the residents were watching TV with their neighbours.
Shikwambi says the door of the shack where the baby was sleeping was closed but not locked.
When a girl (13) who was watching TV with her parents at their neighbour’s house decided to go home and sleep, she discovered the man raping the toddler.
“She immediately ran back to the neighbour’s house and informed the mother,” says Shikwambi.
The suspect fled the scene but is known. Efforts to arrest him are ongoing.
The victim was taken to the Gobabis State Hospital for a medical examination, while police investigations continue.
In a separate rape incident at Eenhana last month, two men, aged 22 and 27, were arrested after they allegedly gang raped a girl (16) under coercive circumstances.
The suspects allegedly beat the victim with a stick.
“They will soon appear in the Eenhana Magistrate’s Court. Police investigations continue,” adds Shikwambi.
