Police Inspector’s son in hit-and-run at Swakopmund

THE son of Police Inspector JP Viljoen, Andries Viljoen (21), is facing several charges in connection with an alleged hit-and-run accident at Swakopmund over the weekend.

The accident took place at a traffic circle on the Henties Bay road near Tamariskia early Sunday morning.
Otto Victor (40) was crossing the road when Viljoen’s car allegedly slammed into him, killing him instantly, Police sources told The Namibian yesterday.
Viljoen allegedly fled the scene and was later arrested in the Tamariskia suburb.
He appeared in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court yesterday on charges of drunken driving, reckless driving, culpable homicide and failing to report an accident.
Magistrate Hannelie Prinsloo granted Viljoen N$5 000 bail, and the case was postponed to February 12 for further investigation.
