Police concerned about dagga in Oshana Region

OSHANA residents, and especially young people, who plant dagga ‘at their houses, their flats, cuca shops, parents’ houses, as well as selling and smoking dagga’, have become a big concern for Oshana Police Commander, Commissioner Ndahangwapo Kashihakumwa.

According to Kashihakumwa this phenomenon is on the increase and the Police are busy arresting young men, especially from the main towns such as Oshakati, Ondangwa, Ongwediva and Oshikango.
‘We are experiencing problems with cocaine and cannabis-dagga. It is serious. This is something new and dangerous. We now have young people, especially boys, planting, selling and smoking dagga every day. Some don’t even care to be seen anymore, because when they smoke these plants, they don’t know where they are and what they are doing. This is really dangerous to our communities and they have to stop this practice,’ Commissioner Kashihakumwa said.
According to him, they arrested six young men from Oshakati last Friday, who were found in possession of dagga. Some have planted it near their houses and flats in Oshakati west. Those arrested are; Matheus Matheus Kandenge (24), David David Steven (24), Endjala Fabianus (26), Paulus David (19), Onesmus Michael (27) and Tonateni Tuhafeni. They were found with 255 grams of dagga with a street value of N$765. Another young man, Paulus Steven, was arrested in August after he was found with 12 grams of cocaine valued N$1400.
Commissioner Kashihakumwa called on residents of Oshana, especially those from Oshakati, Ongwediva, Ondangwa and the surrounding villages, to cooperate with the Police in combatting the growing and use of dagga and other drugs in the region. He asked residents to come out and report any plantations and use of dagga. ‘ We don’t want dagga in Oshana region and Namibia, we have to work together to remove it completely from our society,’ Commissioner Kashihakumwa said.
