POINTING to infrastructure and mining developments at the coast since Independence, President Hifikepunye Pohamba, at a Swapo Party rally in Arandis on Saturday, emphasised the ruling party’s aim to uplift the previously disadvantaged.
Addressing a crowd of about 1-000 Swapo supporters, Pohamba said the Swapo government had a tangible track record with regard to infrastructure and economic development. He pointed to the growth of the Walvis Bay harbour and the development of the Walvis Bay international airport, as well as the spate of uranium mining projects, as proof of the Swapo government’s continued efforts to creating a conducive environment for local and foreign investment. He said these developments were proof that Namibia’s natural resources were being used for the benefit of all Namibians.Pohamba said the Swapo Party would continue to provide adequate housing, electricity and water infrastructure, education and health facilities across the country. He also said that Namibia will continue to fight corruption.’There are those who tell the Namibian people of all the things they want to do. We, the Swapo government, are telling you of all the things we have done for our people and will continue to do,’ he said. ‘What we have done, you can see and touch.’He called for peaceful Presidential and National elections in November and urged Arandis Swapo supporters to ensure that every individual makes it to the ballot boxes and votes for the ruling party.Pohamba had a busy itinerary in the region last week, with the opening of a new Tunacor fish processing factory at Walvis Bay, the new police station in Mondesa (Swakopmund), and two Swapo constituency offices at Walvis Bay and Arandis. He also met with the Swakopmund business community and toured Rio Tinto’s Rossing Uranium Mine and the science and mathematics centres at Arandis.adam@namibian.com.na
