Plea for Parliament Access Centres

WINDHOEK – A Swapo Party Member of Parliament, Chief Ankama, wants Parliament Access Centres (PAC) to be established countrywide.

Ankama believes that establishing PACs will bring Parliament closer to the people. “In consolidating our democracy and good governance, we need to bring the activities of this noble House nearer to the people,” he told the National Assembly recently.Ankama said many electorates have little or no knowledge about the country’s laws.He said PACs will enable local government representatives, for example councillors, to visit the centre and access parliamentary-related documents. This in turn should benefit their constituencies, he added.”It is also to enable ordinary locals to come to the centre, watch proceedings as they wish, ask related questions if they so want and further discuss matters affecting their lives,” he said.Parliamentary documents are not easily accessible to the majority of people, and bringing Parliament closer to the people requires urgent efforts, he said. The PACs will need computer facilities, screens for watching live debates and the requisite documents, he said.- Nampa”In consolidating our democracy and good governance, we need to bring the activities of this noble House nearer to the people,” he told the National Assembly recently.Ankama said many electorates have little or no knowledge about the country’s laws.He said PACs will enable local government representatives, for example councillors, to visit the centre and access parliamentary-related documents. The PACs will need computer facilities, screens for watching live debates and the requisite documents, he said.- Nampa
