Pensioner arrested with N$1.3m worth of suspected drugs

A 60-year-old Namibian woman was arrested at the Ariamsvlei Border Post on Monday evening, after being found in possession of suspected crystal methamphetamine with an estimated street value of N$13 million.

This was said in a report shared by police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi.

According to the report, border officials became suspicious of the woman who was entering Namibia from South Africa at approximately 22h00.

A search was conducted, revealing two parcels of a clear, unknown substance suspected to be crystal meth, police say.

Drug law enforcement officers were called to the scene, and with the assistance of a Namibia Revenue Agency official, a thorough search uncovered more parcels hidden both on her person and within her luggage, police say.

In total, six parcels of the suspected crystal meth, weighing 2 635 grams, were seized.

The police say the woman was immediately arrested and charged with dealing in prohibited dangerous producing substances.

“The suspect is expected to appear in the Karasburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 15 January,” the police say in the report.

This incident followed a similar arrest last Sunday involving a 55-year-old mom and her daughter who were found in possession of 187 cannabis plants weighing 35 177 gram with an estimated value of N$1.7 million.

The two were apprehended near Groot-
Aub.
