Parliamentary standing committees to visit regions to consult

The National Assembly is on recess until September, during which time the National Assembly’s standing committees will be consulting with selected stakeholders.

Parliament spokesperson Sakeus Kadhikwa announced the recess in a press statement issued on Thursday.

“During this second part of this session, the house dealt with a number of topical issues, including bills and motions tabled by members,” he said.

Kadhikwa said standing committees would during August engage with selected stakeholders.

The natural resources committee will hold public hearings and stakeholder consultation on the motion on lithium mining at Uis in the Erongo region from 30 July to 4 August.

The economics and public administration committee will be in the Omusati, Ohangwena, Oshana and Oshikoto regions during the same time to conduct oversight visits to industrial parks.

The constitutional and legal affairs committee will be giving oversight on projects on marginalised communities and the Electoral Commission of Nambia’s regional offices in the Omusati, Kunene, Zambezi, Kavango West and Kavango East regions, and the human resources and community development committee will conduct public hearings and stakeholder consultations on the motion on youth unemployment.

The natural resources committee will be in the Zambezi, Kavango East and West regions for public hearings and consultations on the motion of human-wildlife conflict from 5 to 19 August.

The economics and public administration committee will be carrying out an oversight visit to the Skeleton Coast on diamond deposits in the Kunene region from 7 to 11 August.

The natural resources committee will hold public hearings on the motion on seals at Swakopmund during the same time.

The gender equality, social and family affairs committee will visit the Omusati, Oshana, Ohangwena and Oshikoto regions to hold public hearings on gender-based violence petitions, and on the motion on mental health from 7 to 11 August.

It will also inspect health facilities during this time.

The economics and public administration committee will visit the Oshana, Otjozondjupa, Erongo, Ohangwena and //Kharas regions about the management of railways and infrastructure.

The foreign affairs, defence and security committee will carry out oversight visits on police accommodation, defence barracks, the air force and prisons in the //Kharas and Hardap regions from 13 to 19 August.

The public accounts committee will hold public hearings at Otjiwarongo from 13 to 19 August.

It will also review audit reports during this time.

The human resources and community development committee will visit the Zambezi, Kavango East, Kavango West and Ohangwena regions to hold public hearings and stakeholder consultations on the motion on water and electricity from 20 to 25 August.

The public accounts committee will carry out oversight visits to government assets in the Oshana, Oshikoto, Ohangwena and Omusati regions from 20 to 25 August.

All standing committees will be at Swakopmund from 27 August to 2 September for training on protocol and diplomacy.
