MEMBERS of Parliament who dutifully arrived in the Chamber yesterday for the start of the afternoon session could go home after waiting in vain for half an hour for more MPs to arrive to form a quorum.
There should be 37 MPs with voting rights in the Chamber. There are 78 MPs in the National Assembly – six of them are appointed by the Head of State but they have no voting rights. The other 72 are elected via the party lists and have voting rights.Two weeks ago there was no session either, because MPs were sent away after just five minutes so that they could attend the opening of an international HIV-AIDS conference at a local hotel.
