MELBOURNE – Leander Paes of India and Cara Black of Zimbabwe have won the Australian Open mixed doubles title, beating Ekaterina Makarova of Russia and Jaroslav Levinsky of Czech Republic 7-5, 6-3.
Laes led the top-seeded pair to victory with a dominant presence at the net and quick footwork.The Sunday win gives Paes and Black their second Grand Slam mixed doubles title. They paired to win the 2008 US Open championship.Paes now has six Grand Slam doubles titles and five Grand Slam mixed doubles titles, including the 2003 Australian Open playing with Martina Navratilova.Black also made it to the Australian Open women’s doubles final with Liezel Huber, where the pair lost in straight sets to Venus and Serena Williams.
