A client of the Outsurance sent us this complaint regarding one of the company’s highly publicised promotions:
OUTsurance! You promised 200 if you cannot beat my insurance. You were 510 more than what I have now. Now you do not call. You are just full of empty promises! When contacted for comment, Outsurance Namibia referred us to Sarah Bohmer from their South African consumer complaints division. She informs us that a detailed investigation would only be possible once the client provides them with their full details (name, surname, ID number and telephone number). She sent us the disclaimer on the promotion which was mentioned by the client:The OUTsurance R200 quote promotionThe following Terms and conditions apply to this promotion. By taking part in this promotion, you agree to be automatically bound by these terms and conditions. What are the basics of this promotion? We are offering to pay R200 in cash or donate R300 as an alternative to the ‘Staff Helping SA OUT’ initiative, for any instance where a person who is not a client completes a car insurance quote with us, and where the OUTsurance quote is more expensive, on a like-for-like basis, than what that person is currently paying for his/her insurance elsewhere.People who are not eligible for this promotion:1. Existing OUTsurance or OUTsurance Namibia clients.2.Any person who is quoting a car who has already obtained a quote from OUTsurance on that same car within the last 186 days.3. Any person who has either cancelled, or has had an OUTsurance or OUTsurance Namibia policy cancelled, within the last 186 days. What you have to do in order to qualify for this promotion1. Obtain a car insurance quote from OUTsurance for a car that you currently pay insurance on, with a company that sells car insurance to the general public of South Africa.2. If the OUTsurance quote is more expensive than what you’re currently paying, on a like-for-like basis, submit the required information via our web site within 30 days of us sending you the quote via E-mail and/or SMS.3. A part of the information required above will be a schedule of your existing insurance cover, confirming that the insurance was effective prior to the date of our quote. This schedule may not be older than 12 months.Outsurance stipulated a long list additional conditions. Again, a complaint had to be sorted out by a South African operator for a Namibian complaint. It would probably help consumers to always find out what the ‘Terms and Conditions’ are before going on a wild goose chase.
