Ouseb might head for ‘Birds’

NAMIBIA’S clubless international footballer, Mohammed Ouseb, might get a life-line to keep his footballing career alive after South African Premiership side Moroka Swallows expressed interest in getting him for trials.

Swallows spokesperson, Sipho Xulu told The Namibian Sport from Johannesburg yesterday that the club’s management, including their coach, Gavin Hunt, had decided to approach the former Kaizer Chiefs player. Ouseb has been without a club since early this year after he parted ways with Norwegian-based Lyn Oslo.Xulu said the Namibian was most likely to be included in the Swallows squad for next season as part of the team’s “reinforcement campaign” ahead of the new season.”Although it is early to make any statement regarding that player (Ouseb) now, we in principle are aware that the coach wants him and we are working towards getting him in for trials,” said Xulu.Xulu said it will be mostly up to the coach (Hunt), to decide if Ouseb will be considered to play for ‘The Birds’ or not.Ouseb could not be reached for comment yesterday.Ouseb, also an ex-Chief Santos defender, has been turned down by his former club Kaizer Chiefs after coach Ted Dumitru did not see him fitting in his plans.Mamelodi Sundowns, another SA Premiership side to which Ouseb was hotly tipped to move to, has not mentioned his name in their transfer dealings so far.Sundowns coach Paul Dolezar is also in the hunt for Ouseb, but said the club’s lawyers were busy sorting out some issues. To date, Dolezar who last week invited two Zimbabwean players to Pretoria for trials, did not include Ouseb and the future of the Namibian to enrol with the Chloorkop side looks uncertain.Ouseb, whose agent, Steve Bailey is based in London, England, last week said he had no contact with him, and did not know any latest developments on his footballing career.Ouseb has been without a club since early this year after he parted ways with Norwegian-based Lyn Oslo.Xulu said the Namibian was most likely to be included in the Swallows squad for next season as part of the team’s “reinforcement campaign” ahead of the new season.”Although it is early to make any statement regarding that player (Ouseb) now, we in principle are aware that the coach wants him and we are working towards getting him in for trials,” said Xulu.Xulu said it will be mostly up to the coach (Hunt), to decide if Ouseb will be considered to play for ‘The Birds’ or not.Ouseb could not be reached for comment yesterday.Ouseb, also an ex-Chief Santos defender, has been turned down by his former club Kaizer Chiefs after coach Ted Dumitru did not see him fitting in his plans.Mamelodi Sundowns, another SA Premiership side to which Ouseb was hotly tipped to move to, has not mentioned his name in their transfer dealings so far.Sundowns coach Paul Dolezar is also in the hunt for Ouseb, but said the club’s lawyers were busy sorting out some issues. To date, Dolezar who last week invited two Zimbabwean players to Pretoria for trials, did not include Ouseb and the future of the Namibian to enrol with the Chloorkop side looks uncertain.Ouseb, whose agent, Steve Bailey is based in London, England, last week said he had no contact with him, and did not know any latest developments on his footballing career.
