Otjimbingwe residents demonstrate over brutal murder

KARIBIB – Residents of Otjimbingwe on Friday staged a demonstration in front of the Karibib Magistrate’s Court to express their anger at the brutal murder of 64-year-old Theresia Tsuses.

Tsuses was murdered at Otjimbingwe on Tuesday.Speaking on behalf of the community members, Petrus Gaib appealed to the court for stiffer sentences and asked that the 34-year-old man suspected of raping and killing the elderly woman not be given bail.’We want the mothers of Otjimbingwe to also stop bailing out their sons when they commit a crime. We want criminal acts such as theft committed by underage boys and young men to be investigated, as big crimes start with petty crime,’ he said. The community members complained that the Police at Otjimbingwe at times deny them help when they report suspicious persons or incidents and asked that the number of Police officers at the town be increased.Receiving the petition, public prosecutor Gaynor Alberts said she would make sure that the message reaches the Prosecutor General’s office.Meanwhile, the suspect, Gotlieb Gariseb, appeared in the Karibib Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Razikua Kaviua on Friday on a charge of murder.Gariseb allegedly strangled the victim with a scarf, dragged her into a riverbed and murdered her.He then ran away, but members of the community caught him and handed him over to the Police.Gariseb pleaded not guilty and his case was postponed to April 24 for further investigation. He was refused bail and remains in Police custody at Karibib.-Nampa
