AN Ongopolo Mining Corporation employee who died in an accident at the Otjihase Mine on Saturday has been identified as 29-year-old Even Maria Sheehama.

Four other miners were injured. Otjihase General Manager Andrew Thomson yesterday confirmed that Sheehama died when a light delivery vehicle crashed into a mining rig.The vehicle, an Uri, is used to transport workers to and from workstations inside the mine, Thomson said.Thomson added that, while there has been plenty of speculation over what might have caused the accident, its exact cause is yet to be determined.Sheehama’s family yesterday said that earlier media reports which stated that she had died at a Windhoek hospital were incorrect.Sheehama’s injured colleagues were immediately rushed to Windhoek for medical attention, but she died on the spot.Thomson said Ongopolo would issue a press release when new information became available.Otjihase General Manager Andrew Thomson yesterday confirmed that Sheehama died when a light delivery vehicle crashed into a mining rig.The vehicle, an Uri, is used to transport workers to and from workstations inside the mine, Thomson said.Thomson added that, while there has been plenty of speculation over what might have caused the accident, its exact cause is yet to be determined.Sheehama’s family yesterday said that earlier media reports which stated that she had died at a Windhoek hospital were incorrect.Sheehama’s injured colleagues were immediately rushed to Windhoek for medical attention, but she died on the spot.Thomson said Ongopolo would issue a press release when new information became available.
