OSHANA held its annual Namibia Sport School Union (NSSU) regional awards ceremony at Ongwediva on Saturday.
The athletes were judged on their performance at national level this year, as well as on performance at regional level, number of competitions, number of active sports codes at the school, and the quality of competitions. The Junior Sportswoman of the Year gong went to Faustina Nangolo from the International Primary School. Nangolo was selected to represent Oshana’s U/12 netball at national netball trials and subsequently went on to represent the country in Boksburg, South Africa, where she helped Namibia to win five of their seven games. Mudabeti Artly earned the Junior Sportsman of the Year award after playing for the national Volleyball U/13 team at the COSSASSA Games.The Senior Sportswoman of the Year award went to Ndapandula Nghinanye from Iipumbu Senior Secondary. Nghinanye won gold at the Oshana Regional Athletics Championship, the nationals and the South Junior Competition, and won the Old Mutual victory race over a distance of 21km.Nalukaku Asser was crowned Senior Sportsman of the Year for his efforts in regional athletics where he won the 5000m gold medal. His second medal came during his participation at National Athletics Championships in Windhoek. In other categories: Shadjuuka Toivo from Charles Anderson Combined School won the Coach of the Year award; the chairperson of the Ompundja Circuit Sports’ Committee Wilhelm P Hango received the Administrator of the Year award; the Team Manager of the Year award went to Muhali Crispin; athletics was awarded the Most Improved Sport Code of the Year title; cricket got the Development Sport Programme of the Year award; and the Sports Primary School of the Year award went to International Primary School.Omukandu Combined School won the Junior Sports School of the Year category; Gabriel Taapopi SS were the Senior Sports School of the Year winners; the Sports Code of the Year award went to football, and the Most Improved School Team of the Year is Eloolo Combined School’s netball team.
