Oshana governor Elia Irimari has called for a street to be named after veteran footballer Fillemon ‘Kaskas’ Angula.
Speaking at Angula’s memorial service at Okaku on Friday, Irimari described him as a hero and said he is deserving of the honour.
Angula was the first player from the Oshana region to play for the Brave Warriors.
He died at his home at Iindangungu last week, shortly before he would have celebrated his 50th birthday.
“We need to put Kaskas’ name on the map. He deserves it,” Irimari said.
According to the governor, the regional office will organise a football match in Angula’s memory.
Irimari said Angula was a peaceful man, from whom he learnt a lot.
Meanwhile, former Brave Warriors’ coach Bimbo Tjihero, speaking at Angula’s funeral on Saturday, appealed to the government to pay tribute to Namibian sport legends.
Tjihero, who delivered a statement on behalf of the Brave Warriors’ class of 1998, remembered Angula for being full of love and discipline.
“Kaskas used to teach us love, he grew up in a great family.”
Tjihero said during Angula’s time, he was one of the best strikers Namibian football had ever seen.
Angula won 10 caps for Namibia, scoring twice.
