Oshakati High Court opened

PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba officially opened the new High Court building at Oshakati on Friday.

The court started its sessions in February already.In her welcoming remarks, Justice Minister Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana said the Oshakati High Court would relieve the workload of the High Court in Windhoek. It would also stimulate the establishment of law firms in the North and enhance access to legal services.She said the new court already employed 20 people and this figure was expected to increase to 60.The Oshakati High Court has three courtrooms, of which one is designed as a victim-friendly courtroom equipped with the latest digital technology and closed-circuit television cameras so that victims of crime do not have to face their attackers. There are three chambers for three Judges and offices for the Registrar of the High Court and staff members, the Prosecutor General and the Master of the High Court.A public law library will be established in the near future.
