Yolanda Pienaar and Peet van der Merwe won round six of the 2024 Nedbank for Good Series, which took place on Saturday at the Oranjemund Golf Club.

Van der Merwe scored 43 points to claim the men’s competition top spot, with Wouter Ludeke amassing 39 points for second place and Gerrit van Rooyen managing 38 points to place third.

Yolanda Pienaar took first place in the women’s competition, with Magnaem Simon, the winner of the Tsumeb meet, coming in second place.

After winning the competition, Van der Merwe said the pleasant weather complemented the competition.

“I urge other players to consider playing in the Nedbank for Good Series as it is for a beneficial cause. Other corporate companies should also support this competition,” he said.

On her part, Pienaar says she had a fantastic day playing golf and fundraising for a worthy cause.

“I do recommend golf to other women to come and join us, as golf is good for health, mingling and networking. Corporate companies should support competitions like this, as this also provides good advertising opportunities for their business,” Pienaar says.

This year’s series proceeds will go directly to Agra ProVision, whose goal is to train, service and support underserved agricultural communities.

Nedbank for Good series coordinator Dan Zwiebel paid tribute to the main sponsor, Nedbank, and the co-sponsors for supporting the event.

“We wouldn’t be able to host these series successfully without the support of our sponsors,” Zwiebel says.

“This was one of the biggest fields of this year’s Nedbank for Good Series. There has been an increase in participation, especially on the women’s side.

“Testament to this, one of the women who recently started training and playing golf, Magnaem Simon, won in Tsumeb recently, and today she came second,” he says.

The organisers and participants will now shift their attention to the coastal leg of the series.

Nedbank Namibia head of marketing and communications Gernot de Klerk says those working behind the series’ scenes had done a commendable job.

“We are thrilled to be part of this initiative, which seeks to train, service and support underserved agricultural communities directly,” De Klerk says.

Next up for the Nedbank for Good Series is Henties Bay on 17 August, Swakopmund on 24 August, Walvis Bay on 31 August and Windhoek Country Club on 14 September.

The series finals are scheduled for 4 October at Omeya.

The 2024 Nedbank for Good Series is co-sponsored by Pupkewitz Toyota, Gondwana Collection Namibia, CB Enterprises, Africa Personnel Services, Erongo Marine Enterprises, Pupkewitz Megabuild, Agra, JTC Namibia, The Logistics Company Namibia, AfricaOnline, Vivo Energy and media partner Future Media.
