An 18-year-old boy died after he reportedly collapsed during an athletics event held at Olupale Combined School in the Oshikoto region on Tuesday.
Police acting regional commander deputy commissioner Linea Shikongo in a crime update on Wednesday said the incident occurred around 15h00 and the deceased was identified as Dominikus Johannes, a resident of Omalindi village.
Shikongo said Johannes, while running with other participants, suddenly collapsed and was rushed to the Omuthiya District hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“The deceased was a Grade 8 pupil at Olupale Combined School in the Omuthiya circuit. He was originally from Epembe village in the Ohangwena region,” Shikongo reported.
The body of the deceased was transported to the Omuthiya police mortuary.
His next of kin have been informed. Police investigations continue.
