Omaruru hosts Enduro

THE first of seven Motorcycle Enduro racing events for 2010 will be staged on March 6 at Farm Kanona in the Omaruru district. This event will be followed-up by six more events in the Bank Windhoek NMSF National Enduro Championship for 2010.

According to the Windhoek Motor Club, two National Bike Classes, one National Quad Class, one National Ladies Quad Class and two Support Classes for bikes and quads respectively along with the new Masters Class will be contested.Last year’s champion, Henner Rusch, will be out to defend his title and fly the flag for Honda, but tight racing is expected with Ingo Waldschmidt (KTM) returning from injury. Another contestant to look out for in Class two battle is Heiko Hennes of the Honda team. The battle in Class one is set to hot up with a few of the support class riders from last year stepping up to challenge the experienced campaigners like Eckhard Waldschmidt (KTM).In the Ladies Quad class Maike Bochert will be the target of the other competitors after she made a clean sweep in last year’s series. Organisers for the first time this year, introduced a category called Support Class to accommodate first-time riders and those who would like to try their hand at this great exciting sport. The service and spectator area will be at the farm itself to ensure maximum excitement and convenience for the spectators. Following rule changes suggested last year, Master Class has also been added to this year’s championship. Although not a national class yet, the Masters class is there for the senior riders to come and enjoy their racing. They only have to complete 75 per cent of the route to qualify as a finisher. This coming event will start at 08h00 and will continue to 16h00, with the prize-giving ceremony scheduled for 19h00 at the Omaruru MX track. The public is welcome to attend this event.
