A GERMAN charity organisation has made it possible for marginalised children living at the old swimming-pool complex at Okahandja, about 70 km north of Windhoek, to attend school.
About 60 destitute San people live at the pool. The Quandt-Hilfsfond donated N$7 000 to the children of the San community so that they can attend school this year.Eighteen of the children are of school-going age and have been enrolled at schools at Okahandja. They received new school uniforms, basic school necessities and their school fees were paid for the year. Most of the children attend the Aurora Primary School, which is on the other side of town.In the mornings, the children walk to school and in the afternoons the Andreas Kukuri Centre sends a car to take them home.Teacher Sophy Shanjengange says all the children are extremely enthusiastic about school and never miss a day.The children were also doing very well in sport, especially athletics, she said.
