Ohangwena governor Sebastian Ndeitunga says positive traditions and customs should continue, while others should be discarded of.
He said this at a Heritage Week celebration at Okongo in the Ohangwena region on Wednesday.
“I understand that heritage refers to something that is handed down from past generations . . . however, it is important to be mindful that traditions and customs are progressive,” he said.
“It is not a positive tradition for girls to be married at an early age, nor is it good to impregnate underage girls, disrupting their education.
“It is also not a positive tradition to beat up women and engage in other forms of gender-based violence,” Ndeitunga said.
