THE Swakopmund Town Council has received objections to three applications to operate new accommodation establishments at the town.
The objections were received from Hotel Europa Hof, Hotel Garni Adler and the Secret Garden Guest House. They argued that there were too many Bed & Breakfast establishments at the town, making it difficult for hotels to survive.According to the January monthly report of the Town Health Department, there are 33 registered accommodation establishments.The list does not include hotels.Council did not support the objections, but recommended that the applicants first follow the necessary process before final approval was granted.The process includes permission from the Namibian Tourism Board to operate such an establishment, registration with the Health Department and strict adherence to the regulation of providing 1,5 parking spaces per unit.Applications were received from Kallisto Bed & Breakfast, Dunes Lodge and Marietjie’s Guest House.The objectors will be informed that they have the right to object against the Council decision to the Minister of Local and Regional Government and Housing within 28 days.They argued that there were too many Bed & Breakfast establishments at the town, making it difficult for hotels to survive.
