Nyamu appeals for more investments

TRADE and Industry Minister Jesaya Nyamu on Tuesday urged Asian businesses to consider investing in the sectors in which the Namibian Government was promoting projects of national importance.

He said Government was willing to co-operate with serious investors with skills and capital in order to kick-start the projects. Nyamu singled out the establishment of a cement plant, the production and proper marketing of gemstones, the setting up of a cotton ginnery, the Kudu Gas project and agro-economic industry.Nyamu was speaking at a farewell dinner in honour of the visiting Asian business delegation. The Asian business delegation was in the country since Monday to explore business opportunities in Namibia. He explained that the establishment of cement plant was of national importance to serve not only the Namibian economy but also the Angolan economy, which has now entered a reconstruction phase. The basic resources were locally available and the Government was prepared and ready to work together with investors in this sector, Nyamu said.He explained that the production and proper marketing of gemstones to kick-start the full-scale empowerment of small miners in the Karibib, Keetmanshoop and other national centres was of great importance, and that Government had already set-up infrastructure.Government is also looking seriously for co-operation with investors who would like to set-up a cotton ginnery in the Rundu area to encourage the full-scale production of cotton, given the vast market offered by Ramatex factory, he said. The Kudu Gas field with its trillions of gas reserves remains one of the highest priorities for the Government and will continuously strive towards drawing in foreign investments until its production and marketing capacity has been realised, he explained. He said Government has recently formulated a policy on the green-scheme to encourage the full-scale commercialisation and high productivity levels of the agro-economic industry, and are keen to attract investors who would like to exploit this sector in co-operation with Namibians.- NampaNyamu singled out the establishment of a cement plant, the production and proper marketing of gemstones, the setting up of a cotton ginnery, the Kudu Gas project and agro-economic industry.Nyamu was speaking at a farewell dinner in honour of the visiting Asian business delegation. He said Government has recently formulated a policy on the green-scheme to encourage the full-scale commercialisation and high productivity levels of the agro-economic industry, and are keen to attract investors who would like to exploit this sector in co-operation with Namibians.- Nampa
