Nudo welcomes Grade 10 repeats

NUDO has applauded the decision to allow Grade 10 pupils who have failed to make the grade to repeat the year.

‘[Minister Abraham] Iyambo has succeeded to break the ice, the bureaucracy of Government,’ commented Nudo president Kuaima Riruako. ‘Nudo puts its foot down. The way Iyambo is functioning is a show-off to those [ministers] who are cunning, those who are stuck in the mud who do not want to move. Iyambo has given the freedom to people who are entitled to opportunities,’ remarked Riruako. The secretary general of the party, Ussiel Tjijenda, said the party ‘unequivocally’ rallies behind Iyambo’s efforts to ‘meaningfully’ address the shortages of classrooms and textbooks, and the problem of unqualified teachers. This confluence of shortages in the education sector, said Tjijenda, consistently diminished returns from the system. ‘If need be, let us recall some of the retired teachers to come and help out on this man-made crisis,’ added Tjijenda. The party implored those eligible to repeat the grade to seize the opportunity and return to school. Tjijenda said the education issue should be treated as a national one, urging for the formation of a national platform for consultation to improve school performance.
