THE Nudo party has moved the launch of its 2009 election manifesto from this weekend to the weekend of August 9 and the event will take place at Okakarara, the party said on Wednesday.
‘Due to circumstances beyond our control we had to postpone the event and also the Nudo central committee meeting preceding the manifesto launch,’ said Ussiel Tjijenda, Nudo’s Deputy Secretary General at a press conference.According to him the party’s national Bureau would meet at Okakarara on Friday, August 7, followed by a central committee meeting and an election workshop the next day. On Sunday, August 8, the party’s election manifesto will be launched during a rally at Okakarara.’It is a pro-poor manifesto and very special of its kind,’ Tjijenda said.He also criticised the national broadcaster NBC for poor coverage of rallies held by opposition parties. ‘We are frustrated about how the NBC is run, because in our view it is financed through taxpayers’ money and should thus cover all events without any favour or bias. We have noticed that if opposition parties have party events, they only get covered on the late [television] news of NBC, while events of the ruling Swapo Party will be covered during the 20h00 news and in full detail, taking up virtually half of the news coverage,’ Tjijenda lashed out.According to him, opposition parties will soon have a meeting with the NBC management to discuss the matter.
