NSC to revive netball

THE Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) will on Friday chart the way forward for the country’s inactive netball code that seems to have fallen into a deep sleep.

NSC chief administrator Rusten Mogane said NSC Commissioners have been instructed by the Minister of Sport Willem Konjore to establish an interim committee to put modalities in place to revive this code.Mogane added that the interim committee’s sole responsibility is to make sure that elections for the All Namibia Netball Association (ANNA) are held at regional and national level with immediate effect. The interim committee will also be tasked with amending ANNA’s constitution. He said netball has been inactive for the past two years, and absolutely nothing is happening at regional and national level.Konjore expressed dismay at the inactivity of netball at a recent media briefing.Asked about the legality of the term of office of the current ANNA leadership, Mogane said it only expires in 2010.ANNA’s current executive committee is headed by Carol Garoes.Efforts to get comment from Garoes proved futile, as she is reportedly visiting the regions in her official capacity as the Acting Deputy Director of Administration a * * * Meanwhile, the first-ever Netball Safari, a programme that focuses on training and coaching upcoming players and coaches, will take place from August 26 to September 5 in Windhoek.- Nampa
