NSC probes cheats

THE investigation being conducted by the Development Committee of the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) regarding ‘age-cheating’ in the national under-17 soccer team in 2008 has reached an advanced stage.

Speaking to Nampa yesterday, the NSC’s Chief Administrator, Rusten Mogane, said the investigation is almost completed.
Judgement on the two accused youngsters will be made public at the end of this month, he said.
Mogane, who was not at liberty to divulge any information on the accused persons, said the Namibia Football Association (NFA) has co-operated with the Development Committee tasked with the case.
On previous occasions, Mogane had warned both sports administrators and athletes to refrain from age-cheating, as those found guilty could be stripped of their national colours and banned from their respective sports codes.
The NSC is set to seriously address the issue of age-cheating within sports, as the Commission wants Namibia to be a shining example within southern Africa.
This is the first case dealt with by the NSC’s Development Committee since the establishment of the Commission in the mid-90s. – Nampa
