NPL to decide on interim chair

NPL to decide on interim chair

THE Namibia Premier League Board of Governors (BoG) will decide today when they will hold an extraordinary annual general meeting to elect a new chairman for the body, after Hendrik Dawids resigned at the end of last week.

Dawids resigned due to personal reasons. His term of office was due to come to an end in July 2010.
NPL chief administrator Tovey //Hoëbeb said there will be an ordinary AGM in July this year, but members cannot elect an chairman there.
They have to propose a date for an extraordinary AGM to elect an interim chairman until proper elections are held next year.
The interim chairman will be chosen from among the 12 members who form the BoG.
It will be crucial for the body to have a chairman at this stage, as they will soon start negotiating new sponsorship deals for next season.
The NPL secured a last minute sponsorship to kick-start the 2008/09 football season after the Namibia Football Consortium (NFC) broke up last season.
The NFA, which injected a yearly N$8 million into football year broke up due to differences in investment priorities.
The cponsortium consisted of MTC, Namibia Breweries Limited and First National Bank (FNB).
MTC this season invested N$4,3 million into the NPL alone, while the Namibia Football Association is responsible for the lower divisions.
Dawids replaced Peter van Wyk last year and is currently the owner of Namibia Premier League (NPL) defending champions Orlando Pirates.
