Novanam strikers plan mass demo

CLOSE to 1 000 striking workers at the Novanam fish-processing plant at Lüderitz are preparing for a mass protest tomorrow as part of their month-long wage strike.

The President of the Namibia Seamen and Allied Workers Union (Nasawu), Paulus Hango, told The Namibian that community members at the southern coastal town will also join the mass protest in support of the striking workers.
The workers downed tools at the beginning of last month after management and the union failed to reach agreement on wage increases.
The workers are demanding a 7,5 per cent increase while the company has offered 5 per cent.
The negotiations resumed on Wednesday, said Hango.
