A NATIONAL youth leader says there is a lack of condoms in the Ohangwena, Oshana and Omusati Regions.
National Youth Council Secretary General Pohamba Shifeta said on Monday that the condoms that are available in the regions are mostly for sale. Shifeta was speaking after the conclusion of an NYC and Oshana Youth Forum information dissemination campaign conducted in the Ohangwena, Oshana and Omusati regions.Shifeta said young people have to walk long distances to hospitals to obtain condoms.Sometimes hospitals do not have condoms.He added that there was a perception among some young people that HIV-AIDS only affected urban youth.The campaign included giving out educational pamphlets, video cassettes and postcards on protection.During December and January, 12 villages were visited in Ohangwena, 11 in Omusati and 12 in Oshana.Brian Prince, editor of the NYC’s newsletter on HIV-AIDS, Open Talk, said the NYC will distribute six large boxes of condoms to all NYC regional co-ordinators so that they can distribute them to young people.This, he said, will be done on a monthly basis.Shifeta was speaking after the conclusion of an NYC and Oshana Youth Forum information dissemination campaign conducted in the Ohangwena, Oshana and Omusati regions.
