Northern businessmen in court

A PROMINENT Swapo member and business personality, Sigo Amunyela (41) from Omaalala village, and two others appeared in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with possession of stolen goods.

Amunyela, Hashilelo Fillemon (40) and Paulus Kautondokwa (36) had their case postponed to March 26 2012 for further Police investigation and to allow them to get legal representation. They are out on bail of N$1 000 each. The suspected stolen items are reportedly two large tents valued at N$38 000 and N$28 000 respectively, 116 chairs, 7 tables and two generators collectively valued at N$25 000.They were allegedly stolen from businessman Kondjashili Shihepo at Okatana village.Shihepo said a man rented those items a week ago, but never brought them back with the payment. When they searched and found him, the man reportedly said he had given the items to Amunyela.Shihepo reported the case to the Police, who arrested Amunyela on Friday.Amunyela denied the charges and claimed he was framed because he is a supporter of Trade Minister Hage Geingob’s bid to become President.’This is an organised political move, not a criminal case. I haven’t stolen anybody’s items as alleged,’ said Amunyela.
