DEPUTY Prime Minister Marco Hausiku has urged Swapo Party regional and local councillors in the Kavango Region to bury their personal differences and concentrate on serving the electorate.
He also warned them that non-performing councillors would not be allowed to continue in political office.Addressing Swapo councillors at Rundu on Saturday, Hausiku reminded them that they are in political office on a Swapo ticket, and as such, should not forget that they have a mandate to fulfil – that of providing much-needed services to the voters.Hausiku, who is the chairperson of the Swapo Party national leaders assigned to the Kavango Region, said there was no excuse why councillors should not implement the party’s programmes as laid out in its election manifesto.’Don’t forget that you have five years to perform and not just sleep,’ said the Deputy Prime Minister. He said with Vision 2030 fast approaching, councillors should work hard and rededicate themselves to Swapo programmes and activities, and put their own interests last. The Deputy PM advised the councillors to pay special attention to problem areas in their constituencies and local authorities.According to him, many local authority councillors fight against each other, in most cases over petty differences. He urged them to avoid personal fights.Hausiku advised young councillors in the region to show dynamism by introducing tangible changes during their tenure. ‘The Kavango Region this year should stand for hard work, unity and maximum implementation of plans,’ added Hausiku.Swapo controls all nine Kavango constituencies, and has five of the seven seats in the Rundu Town Council. At the town of Nkurenkuru, the party occupies all seven seats. – Nampa
