I ALWAYS read Gwen Lister’s Political Perspective because it is to the point and gives credit where it is due and criticises when necessary.
So, we are on par on our outlook! I fully agree with you on this bursary given and accepted by our former President. I always admired Sam Nujoma although I did not always agree with what he did and I thought it would be chaos should he step down and someone else take over. But the last few months, with the election of a President-to-be – the way in which it was done and the dismissal of people whom I and many others respected and believed can and have played a big role in our country – Just to mention two – Hidipo Hamutenya and Hage Geingob and others, e.g.Ben Amathila! I am not a politician so I can’t understand those things.Coming back to the bursary, I also do not criticise the company who offered the bursary, but I do criticise our former president for accepting it.If one thinks of the package he received – I think it is ridiculous! Why does he need all those benefits and then still accept money, as you put it so rightly, which could have funded bursaries for students who need them.I would have respected him if he had turned it down and thanked them and said he would, from his side, add an equivalent amount towards bursaries for students who need them.I would also admire him if he could put a stop to this ridiculous film, or offer to pay it himself.I read the book and it is very good, but who, apart from us, true Namibians, will be interested in buying/seeing the film, unless it is an excellent production that could be to the taste of others.Although I was also sceptical about the appointment of President Pohamba, because everybody thought he would be a puppet of Nujoma, we now respect him and are impressed with the way he is handling corruption and that ridiculous motorcade.I like his humble, friendly attitude and his sense of humour.I watched the live TV production of his State of the Nation Address and was very impressed, especially the way in which he answered the members of the opposition. Thanks for the way The Namibian reports on happenings in Namibia. At least it is not one-sided.I hope you have been given advertisements from Government again – that also was petty.Keep up the good workTrue Namibian Via e-mailI always admired Sam Nujoma although I did not always agree with what he did and I thought it would be chaos should he step down and someone else take over. But the last few months, with the election of a President-to-be – the way in which it was done and the dismissal of people whom I and many others respected and believed can and have played a big role in our country – Just to mention two – Hidipo Hamutenya and Hage Geingob and others, e.g.Ben Amathila!
