JUSTICE Minister and Attorney General Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana will travel to South Africa “soon” to discuss “progress” made on the search for N$100 million that went missing from the State-owned Offshore Development Company due to dubious investments in a Botswana company.
Responding to a question by Nora Schimming-Chase of the Congress of Democrats (CoD) in Parliament yesterday, the Minister said she was aware that the Namibian public was looking forward to the investigations being completed. “However, three countries are involved, Namibia, Botswana and South Africa, and we seek support from other institutions in this matter,” Iivula-Ithana said.”I will meet my South African counterpart soon to discuss this.We are dealing with a sensitive matter. Those (suspects) who are involved in the case also listen to what we say in public.I plead for your understanding until the appropriate time,” the Minister said.Tens of millions of dollars in taxpayers’ money has been lost in a case which continues to be haunted by double dealing, underhand dealings and tales of political intrigue. Some N$55 million of the N$100 million came from the now defunct State-owned Namibia Development Corporation (NDC), on the instructions of the ODC.”However, three countries are involved, Namibia, Botswana and South Africa, and we seek support from other institutions in this matter,” Iivula-Ithana said.”I will meet my South African counterpart soon to discuss this.We are dealing with a sensitive matter. Some N$55 million of the N$100 million came from the now defunct State-owned Namibia Development Corporation (NDC), on the instructions of the ODC.
